Established in 1978, Waiariki is one of the largest tertiary institutes outside the university centers. The campus is low-rise and set in clean, green and safe rural surroundings only five minutes from Rotorua's city centre.

Waiariki has campuses located in Rotorua, Taupo, Tokoroa and Whakatane, as well as collaborative arrangements with Bay of Plenty Polytechnic , for the Bachelor of Nursing qualification, and Tairāwhiti Polytechnic, for the Diploma of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) qualification.
